Special Education

Currently, in the Seoul Metropolitan area, there are 4,430 students attending 32 national, public and private special schools. Furthermore, there are 1,427 special classes in kindergartens, elementary schools, middle schools and high schools providing integrated education for 6,435 disabled students.

Special educational institutions provide students who have visual impairments, hearing impairments, intellectual disabilities, physical disabilities, and/or emotional and behavioral disorders with kindergarten, elementary school, middle school and high school education (including major courses), and health impaired students are allowed to receive education through hospital schools and video lecturing systems while attending general schools. It is compulsory to attend elementary schools and middle schools, while kindergartens and high schools (including major subjects) are free.
