Seoul Education Research and Information Institute
The Seoul Metropolitan Educational Research and Information Institute studies and analyzes various educational theories and research practices and identifies the findings that may be applied in classroom settings.
Moreover, the Institute holds various research competitions and manages the teacher-researcher system to encourage teachers' professional development. It also operates a Career Guidance Center and a Counseling Center for youth, and offers on-line teaching and learning support services through SSEM (Support Center for Student and Teacher of Educational Metropolis) and a cyber home-study system called "kkulmat.com."
As the hub of learning assistant centers under the Seoul Metropolis Office of Education, the Institute is committed to bringing world class education to our students and teachers by providing a myriad of research findings, educational information and career guidance.
Seoul Science Exhibition
Serving as the very focal point of Seoul’s science education, Seoul Science Exhibition provides hands-on science experience to students and citizens and aims at enhancing national competitiveness by promoting science awareness among the general public and raising gifted individuals in the field of science.
Its aim is to intrigue, inspire and spark students' interest in science, cultivate independent research skills among students by creating opportunities for hands-on learning, and promote students' academic ability through providing science-related teaching and learning resources to the teachers.
The Exhibition is not only intended for the gifted students, but for any individual to freely explore the world of science and enjoy the experience together with his/her family and friends.
Seoul Education Training Center
Seoul Educational Training Center is one of the leading training centers in Korea that provides various training programs for kindergarten, primary and secondary school teachers. The Center is focused on providing future-oriented, consumer-focused and change-driven training.
The Center strives to embrace a more consumer-centered perspective by organizing various activities through public idea subscription; arranging field training in schools; maintaining flexible hours by offering training on weekends, at nights, and weekdays; and designating regional organizations for cooperative training.
Further, the Training Center is making every effort to enhance the quality of training by public involvement. It operates a Selection Committee that oversees the quality of lectures and instructors and instructor evaluation and feedback. The Center is committed to create a new paradigm in education training by transforming the existing education system to reflect the needs and desires of our consumers.
Seoul Metropolitan Student Educational Center
Seoul Metropolitan Student Educational Center is a preeminent training center for students. It fosters self-restraint and team spirit and helps build sound mind, body and spirit through outdoor training. It plays an important role in helping students acquire greater emotional and social competence and gain higher learning abilities.The Seoul Metropolitan Student Educational Center has its main campus in Chukryung Mt. Camp located in Gapyeong-gun, Gyeonggi-do, and operates three different branches and two outdoor training facilities.
The Center aims to train students through the following activities: leadership training and life experience courses, nature experience program, marine training course, community work, adventure and expedition activities, wildflower observation and ecology experience program, mountain climbing adventure and camping activities.
The Center is making every effort to ensure students' wellbeing through customized education, various training programs in harmony with nature, traditional culture experience and mental discipline training.
Seoul Center for School Health Development
Seoul Center for School Health Development is committed to ensure a healthy lifestyle for students and teachers through health programs and services connected to schools.
Its work includes securing the quality of school meals, educating stakeholders and conducting research concerning school health, ensuring school hygiene and organizing various programs to improve health and welfare of students and staff.
Seoul Early Childhood Education and Development Institute
Founded based on the Childhood Education Act, Article 6, Seoul Early Childhood Education and Development Institute is the nation's first preschool education institute, established in Sajik-dong, Jongro-gu, Seoul on March 1, 2008 for the purpose of strengthening the public school education system and supporting kindergarten education.
The Institute operates under the slogan 'Pleasant company, valuable discovery, happy future' and promotes high-quality programs and safe learning environment to students, parents and teachers. The Institute strives to create a safe and positive learning climate through effective teaching and learning, and provides improved classroom environment and assistance in various research and training of teachers.
Not only does it provide the optimal learning climate, but it also offers various educational activities to help children develop creativity and build personal social competency. Moreover, the Institute develops and carries out various community programs to bring children and the community closer together. The Institute serves as a medium for sharing and distribution of information on childhood education. Hence, a support system is constructed for effective distribution of educational programs, texts, and materials. Lastly, it strives to ensure top quality education through the construction of an effective appraisal system.
Seoul Student Gymnasium
Seoul Student Gymnasium was built in April, 1977 to develop students' physical strength. The gym is located in Jamsil Comprehensive Stadium, and it includes a swimming pool besides the Gymnasium. Additionally, the Gangseo branch is located at Shinwol-dong, Yangcheon-gu, Seoul.
There are a number of coordinated programs to encourage leisure/recreational activities for students and promote physical education. The gym facilities are offered free of charge to all the schools and other educational institutions in Seoul district. Furthermore, the place is available for various art and cultural events and group activities.
The Gymnasium helps cultivate athletes in swimming and diving, and runs various youth training programs for different sports events.
In addition, the Gymnasium promotes physical activity throughout the schools and community with programs such as physical education presentation for elementary teachers, basketball classes and fitness club.
The Gymnasium will continuously seek ways to best serve our students and community with better facilities, equipment and programs.
Seoul Metropolitan Education Facilities Management Office
Seoul Metropolitan Education Facilities Management Office is the nation's only professional organization committed to promoting excellence in the management and maintenance of school facilities. The Office is responsible for the following duties:It is committed to creating an environment that is conducive to learning. The Office takes various factors such as school calendar, faculty and school opinion into account in the designing process in order to best satisfy the students and teachers.
The task team provides assistance to schools that lack the resources or the technology to replace the high ceiling lighting in the gym or the swimming pool area, to repair pipe leakage and other types of renovation. They have completed 953 service cases from 706 schools in 2008. The Office was able to reduce the expense by 50% in comparison to the cost that would have been incurred if the services were contracted out.
Technicians are assigned to specific schools to inspect the site and offer assistance in areas that require maintenance or renovation. In 2008, this system was hailed for developing a number of innovative projects.
Lifelong Education Center
The Lifelong Education Center is in full charge of facilitating lifelong education and developing various programs to expand learning opportunities for local citizens and to effectively prepare the citizens to meet the evolving demands of the society.
The Center places special focus on creating greater learning opportunities for the professional retirees and on serving the interests of the minorities among the population who had missed the opportunities for learning due to financial, social and other disadvantages.
The Center strives to maintain a close relationship with other lifelong education organizations, affiliated institutes and the Seoul Metropolitan Education Facilities Management Office to improve the quality of education services and reduce inequities in educational opportunities.
Library
There are 17 libraries located in Seoul. They serve as the district's primary resource center for education information and lifelong education, and provide collections and information services to the public.
Further, the Library contributes to reducing educational inequalities and improving community welfare through initiating a variety of campaigns and cultural events that encourage reading.
The Seoul Municipal Library serves to improve the quality of citizens' life, strengthen national competitiveness and create a pleasant library culture for the community members.
