Currently, in the Seoul Metropolitan area, there are 4,629 students attending 29 national, public and private special schools, and 1,242 special classes in kindergartens, elementary schools, middle schools and high schools providing integrated education for 6,163 disabled students.


Special educational institutions are providing students who have visual impairments, hearing impairments, intellectual disabilities, physical disabilities, and/or emotional and behavioral disorders with kindergarten, elementary school, middle school and high school education (including major courses), and health impaired students receive education through hospital schools and video lecturing systems while attending general schools. Elementary schools and middle schools are compulsory, while kindergartens and high schools (including major subjects) are free.
